5 Signs Your Roofing Problem is an Emergency

Your roof is constantly exposed to the elements, so it stands to reason that it will require occasional repairs. While some roofing issues can wait, others might be signs that you have an emergency that needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Here are just five signs that you have a genuine roofing emergency on your hands.

Missing Shingles

Missing shingles are always a sign that your roof is in need of repairs, especially if they are torn away from your roof by strong winds. This leaves your roof vulnerable to water damage, which can be costly to repair in itself. You might be able to have a few missing shingles replaced, but you should consider a roof replacement if you large parts of your existing roof are left exposed.

Experiencing a Heavy Impact on Your Roof

Even the sturdiest roofs might require emergency repairs if they are hit by hail or a falling tree branch during a severe storm. If you hear a large thump coming from your roof during a storm or if you see something hit it, you should at the very least have it inspected for damage.

Heavy Snow and Ice

If you live in a region that experiences particularly harsh winters, your roof might take a lot of punishment from ice and snow. If you have a lot of snow on your roof and you cannot clear it off, consider hiring a professional to do it for you and inspect your roof. If you have a leak due to an ice dam, contact an emergency roofer as soon as possible before things get worse.

Damage due to Animals

Squirrels, raccoons, and other wildlife can cause a lot of damage to a roof, especially an older roof in need of repair. They can chew through the roof itself, get into your attic, and cause a lot of problems in your home. If you hear scratching within your walls or just underneath your ceiling, you’ll most likely need to contact animal control as well as a roofing expert to fix the problem.

Damaged Gutters

Your roof’s gutter system is more important than many people realize. It’s what carries water away from your roof before it can do any damage. If your gutters are damaged or blocked, have them repaired so they are ready for the next time you’re hit by a severe storm.

If you notice any of these issues or if you have a roof that is over 20 years old, contact Ace Home Improvements to make inspections and repairs at your earliest convenience.
